Caption:   Silas Christofferson at controls of an airplane (1915). Pioneer aviator Silas Christofferson founded Redwood City Airport in early 1916. He built two buildings on Lynch Field at the south end of town, and ran an aviation school and an airship construction construction plant. Christofferson's business was very successful, but short-lived; he was killed in a crash on the field later that same year. The airport existed until the early 1930's, when the land was subdivided and sold for commercial use. Redwood City Airport was located near what is now Chestnut Street, between Veterans Blvd. and Broadway.
