Caption:   Aerial view of Port of Redwood City - looking east (1966). As Redwood Creek gradually silted in, a plan for a modern deep-water port was developed farther east towards the bay entrance. In 1935, a harbor bond issue was approved by voters and matching funds were obtained from the federal government. The creek channels were dredged and larger piers were built along sections that parallel what is now Seaport Blvd. The first cargo ship steamed into the Port of Redwood City in 1937, and the Port has operated independently and profitably since that date. The salt pile belonging to the Leslie Salt Company is shown at left in the photograph and the municipal marina is at center. This photograph was taken by Western Aerial Photos, Inc.
