Tree planting ceremony by Native Daughters (1955). Community activist Mamie Glennan was born in 1869 in San Francisco and moved to Redwood City with her family in 1879. In 1890, she married Frederick W. Glennan, an insurance salesman. Mrs. Glennan was active in many organizations, including the Bonita Parlor Native Daughters of the Golden West. Every year on Arbor Day, the Native Daughters planted a new tree somewhere in the town, and in 1955, the parlor planted a tree at Henry Ford School in Mrs. Glennan's honor. Mrs. Glennan is shown in this photograph in the black coat. |
