Caption:   Beeger Tannery employees (1905). Henry Beeger bought a small Redwood City tannery in 1880 and in ten years, expanded the business from three to 20 employees. Tanneries in Redwood City were a by-product of the lumbering industry. Several of the men in this photograph are holding tools used in the tanning trade. Henry Beeger is second from left in the front row. After Beeger's death in 1898, the business was run successively by his wife, Mary, his eldest son, Carl, and his younger son, Henry Jr. The latter closed the tannery upon his retirement in 1947. Beeger Tannery was located on the site of the present-day Towne Ford dealership.
