Caption:   Two Naval vessels docked at Port of Redwood City (1937). Shipping activities in Redwood City initially took place on Redwood Creek, near the downtown area. As the creek gradually silted in, a plan for a modern deep-water port was developed farther east towards the bay entrance. In 1935, a harbor bond issue was approved by voters and matching funds were obtained from the federal government. The creek channels were dredged and larger piers were built along sections that parallel what is now Seaport Blvd. Shown in this photograph are the battleships USS Monaghan and USS Dale which visited the Port of Redwood City as part of the Port's opening celebration in 1937.
