Caption: | Opening day celebration in front of the Fox Theater (1950). The Sequoia Theater first opened in Redwood City at 2114 Broadway in 1917. A new and larger building was built at 2155 Broadway in 1929. On June 22, 1950, plaster and reinforcing fell from the ceiling of the balcony during the last show, injuring 30 people. The theater closed for several months for repairs and re-opened on September 15 as the Fox Theater. Broadway was closed for the evening between Hamilton Street and Middlefield Road for dancing and entertainment. The Fox Theater building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. | ||
