Caption: | Farewell party for Sequoia High School Japanese students (1942). Sequoia High School was founded in Redwood City in 1895, and was the first high school in San Mateo County. In 1924, the students moved to the present-day campus located at El Camino and Brewster. Shown in this photograph are Japanese students from Sequoia who were sent to internment camps at the start of World War II. Teachers and students gave the Japanese students a farewell party on their last day of school in March of 1942. The woman in the back row is school librarian Angelina Burns, primary organizer of the event. | ||
