Caption: | George H. Rice Abstract Co. interior (1911). The George H. Rice Abstract Company was established in 1874 when Redwood City resident George Rice was serving as San Mateo County Clerk-Recorder. His niece's husband, Clarence M. Doxsee, came to work for title company in 1905, and eventually became a partner. In 1927, the company was renamed the San Mateo County Title Insurance Company. The company was run by the Rice, Doxsee, and Woodhams families until 1968. Clarence Doxsee is shown in the photograph seated at the desk at front left. | ||
