Caption:   John Horstman Chemical Company interior (c.1914). The Horstman Chemical Works plant produced bicarbonate of soda, magnesium chloride, soda ash, resin and other chemical products. Horstman first opened in San Francisco, and moved to its location on Buckeye Street in Redwood City after the 1906 earthquake. Plant superintendent Peter McKay is at left and Eli Smith, at right, was in charge of the engine room.
