Caption: | Earthquake damage to the Bank of San Mateo Co. building (1906). Damage in Redwood City from the 1906 earthquake was worse for brick buildings than those constructed from wood. Although there was extensive damage in downtown, there were no deaths and only minor injuries. The Bank of San Mateo County building was constructed in 1900 on the corner of Main and Broadway. The cupola from the top of the bank building was so badly damaged that had to be removed by workmen the day after the earthquake. The bank was later rebuilt and served as a bank until 1967. The building now houses professional offices. | ||
