Caption:   Garden on the Hopkins Estate (c.1890). Moses Hopkins included an extensive garden in the estate he had built in Redwood City in the early 1880's. The garden was maintained by subsequent owners, and was also part of the property sold to the Sequoia High School district in 1921. In 1936, students belonging to the Japanese Club converted the old rock garden into a formal Japanese Tea Garden. The project, which took three years to complete, used student labor and donations of plants and gardening supplies from local Japanese florists. The Tea Garden is still part of the Sequoia High School campus which is located at El Camino and Brewster.
