Caption: | Locomotive in front of railroad depot (c. 1867). The first train came through Redwood City in 1863, when the San Francisco-San Jose Railroad Company established railroad service between San Francisco and Palo Alto. The SF-SJ Railroad was bought out by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1868. Shown in this photograph is a train stopped in front of the first passenger depot in Redwood City. The train is pulled by the wood-burning locomotive called the San Mateo. This photograph was taken by James Van Court. | ||
