Caption: | Benjamin Fox (c.1858). Benjamin F. Fox was the first superior court judge of San Mateo County. He was born in 1804 and raised in New York state. Fox moved to Michigan in 1826 and served in the Michigan State legislature for over 25 years. In 1853, he came with his family to California, and settled in Redwood City, which later became the county seat. He was elected judge when San Mateo County was formed in 1856, and served two terms, retiring in 1860. Fox died in Redwood City in 1869 and is buried in Union Cemetery. | ||
