Caption: | Construction of the dome for the San Mateo County courthouse (1904). Designed by Dodge & Dolliver Architects of San Francisco, the third courthouse was of Italian renaissance style, made of faced brick and terra cotta trim. The cornerstone was laid on July 4, 1904. Construction took 18 months and cost $125,000. Before the finished building was occupied, however, it was heavily damaged by the 1906 earthquake. All but the dome structure had to be demolished. The courthouse block is located between Broadway, Hamilton, Marshall, and Winslow Streets in Redwood City, the county seat of San Mateo County. | ||
