Caption: | Redwood City Hospital exterior (undated). The Redwood City Hospital opened in 1910 at the corner of Phelps Street (now Middlefield Road) and Spruce Street. It was owned and operated by Miss Mabel Hulings, a registered nurse, and her mother, Mrs. Mary Hulings. The Hulings maintained the hospital until 1921, when the high cost of medical supplies forced them to close. The hospital was reopened under the name Middlefield Road Hospital less than six months later by a group of nurses from San Francisco. The building was converted to a rest home in the early 1940's. | ||
