Caption: | Mt. Carmel Catholic Church exterior (c.1890). The first Catholic church in Redwood City, called Saint Mary's, was built on Brewster Street, between El Camino and the railroad tracks in 1866. The first parish priest was Father Dionysius Dempsey. The church was renamed Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in 1887, and a parsonage was added next to the church in 1889. The buildings were torn down in 1932, when the present-day church was constructed at the corner of Fulton and James Streets. | ||
