Caption: | Beeger Tannery employees in front of original building (1889). Henry Beeger bought a small Redwood City tannery in 1880 and in ten years, expanded the business from three to 20 employees. Tanneries in Redwood City were a by-product of the lumbering industry. After Beeger's death in 1898, the business was run successively by his wife, Mary, his eldest son, Carl, and his younger son, Henry Jr. The latter closed the tannery upon his retirement in 1947. Beeger Tannery was located on the site of the present-day Towne Ford dealership. | ||
