Caption:   Frank Tanning Company wharves & buildings (c.1890). Shown in this photograph are a launch and scow schooner docked at the Frank Tanning Company wharves. The long tall building was the rolling room, and the building with "Franks Tannery" on the roof housed the engine and boiler rooms. The tannery was located on the site of the present-day Mervyn's Plaza. The business closed in 1959 and the vacant buildings burned to the ground in a 1968 fire. This photograph was taken by O.V. Lange.
