Caption: | Fire Department parade entry (c.1935). The first Fourth of July parade took place along Broadway in 1887. Since that time, Redwood City has sponsored a parade almost every year. In 1939, a local community group called The Peninsula Celebration Association was organized for the purpose of hosting Independence Day festivities. Until the late 1960's, the festivities took place over an entire week and included a parade, rodeo, sporting events, and fireworks. Shown in this photograph are members of the Redwood City Fire Department marching past a reviewing stand in front of Fire Station No. 1. | ||
