Caption: | Redwood City firemen and fire trucks in front of Station no. 1 (1936). When the Redwood City Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1861, it was the first non-profit organization in San Mateo County. Ownership of the department was formally transferred to the city town trustees in 1888. Station no. 1 on Middlefield Road was completed in 1920 and contained a space for three motorized fire vehicles. Shown at left is Fire Chief Mark Ryan, and Deputy Chief Joseph Lodi is second from left. Station no. 1 is now part of the Main Library building. | ||
