Caption: | Fire truck in front of Fire Station No. 2 (c.1955). When the Redwood City Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1861, it was the first non-profit organization in San Mateo County. In November of 1862, the first fire house was built at the corner of Marshall and Main Streets. The ownership of the department was formally transferred to the town trustees in 1888. Fire Station No. 1 (now No. 9) was built in 1920 on Middlefield Road. Increased population growth created a need for additional fire stations. Fire Station No. 2 (now No. 10), shown in this photograph, was built in 1928 on Jefferson Avenue. | ||
