Stained glass window of Sequoia Seal (c.1980). Sequoia High School was founded in Redwood City in 1895. Classes were held on the third floor of the Grammar School until a separate high school building was constructed on Broadway in 1904. In 1924, the students moved to the current high school campus at El Camino and Brewster. The school's official seal was adopted by the 1926 student body. Each part of the seal has a special significance, and the word "Unaliyi" is a Native American word meaning "place of friends". The seal is set in a mosaic tile at the main entrance to the Administration Building, and is also part of a stained glass window in the library, as shown in this photograph. |
