Caption:   Industry: Shaw Batcher company shipyards during World War I (approx. 1918) view 1. Located on Butler Road, later listed as 1050 Oyster Point Blvd. The company was established in 1892 in Sacramento. The South San Francisco plant was built in 1912 and opened in 1913 (the Sacramento plant was retained as a branch). By 1916 it was the largest pipe enterprise on the west coast, the second largest South San Francisco iron industry. During 1914-1918 ships were built at Oyster Point Channel for World War I. In June 1917, the plant was bought by Western Pipe and Steel Co., which took over the site.
