Caption: | Times-Gazette building exterior (c.1880). San Mateo County's first newspaper, called the San Mateo County Times-Gazette, was started in Redwood City in 1859. The first editor was Fremont Older. The paper's printing presses were housed in the second story of a brick building located on Main Street. A saloon occupied the first story. The building fell in the 1906 earthquake. This photograph was taken by James Van Court. | ||
